Racine Spartans [Spring 2007] Boys U-16 - Team Event

MC United Spring 2007 Tournament - St. Louis MO

Intended as a season kick-off, the Racine Spartans Boys U-16 [Spring 2007] traveled to St. Louis for the 2007 MC United Spring Classic Tournament [March 30 - April 01]. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate and the tournament was eventually cancelled on Sunday morning.

The Spartans managed to play their first scheduled game against Lou Fusz - Kaver, losing 1-0 in an even contest that had the Spartans enjoying a slight edge in possession and a clear advantage in shots on goal. Lou Fusz, a respected club from the St. Louis area, scored on a set play 15 minutes into the first half and was able to hold off a consistent Spartan attack during the second half of play to preserve the win.

Although disappointed that the tournament was cancelled, players and parents made the best of the situation. A few managed a trip to the Gateway Arch and team mom, Julie repeatedly thanked coach Issy for the opportunity to schedule, reschedule and rereschedule the team's comings and goings during a chaotic 48 hours. Issy indicated that with a little luck, she might have a chance to do it again.

On the bright side, families were spared the hassle of driving to and from St. Louis. The Spartans were in the good hands of 'K' [his real name cannot be revealed - he's still active in classified special ops] and his coach. K managed to complete the trip without incident and grab the only 'Donny' award. He even tempted fate by playing an April Fools joke on a 'oh so close to the edge' Julie. The man knows no fear.
